Masquerade Entry

"Carmen... Your father was speaking to you," her mother said as the room became silent.  Everyone at the table looked at Carmen.
"It's a book," she said, not looking directly at her father.
"Is this why your grades are suffering?  Do you not remember how hard you worked to get into that school?  You don't go to Notre Dame to become a fucking fantasy writer, Carmen!!"

"Dan..."
"No, Nancy, this isn't okay.  How much are we going to have to cover up for you, Carmen?  How many stupid mistakes are you going to make?  I know about the booze too. Now we have to make sure no one knows you're a drunk as well?"
Carmen dropped her fork.
"A DRUNK?  How about a 22 year old in college?  How about a girl who wants a fucking life?!?"
With that she stormed off.
In a blind rage she stormed into her parents' bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet.
"Xanax, Klonopin, Percocet.... how hypocritical can you get??!" she thought in her furious rage.
Blinded by anger and powerlessness, she grabbed the bottles and opened them, popping whatever pills didn't fall to the floor.
"I can't half-ass this," she thought, "If I'm going to finally do it.. I've got to do it."
She found a dagger she'd hidden in her room, ran back to the bathroom and kneeled over the tub.  She made the slit in her arm, down the road of course, and before she knew it the effects of the drugs had started.  She buckled to her knees before she could even get in the bathtub, the blood draining into the tub. Blackness overcame her.
