Screw WMG with a knife.

I shouldn't be upset about this, but if these dumbass music companies know what is good for them, they will stop blocking shit from youtube.  There is an amazing Machinima a person called MiriusDark made for the Panic! at the Disco song, "Ballad of Mona Lisa".  I've never really like.. bothered to check out P!ATD before now, but that video made me want the album, and yes my happy ass fired up itunes and PAID for the deluxe edition.  This morning I wanted to show my friend the machinima, and I get this lovely message:

This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it on copyright grounds.

Are you fuckin kidding me? That was free advertisement!  It was the whole reason I got the notion to check out PATD or else I would have never bothered.  (I rarely listen to the radio and things like this are how I find music I like.)
I KNOW I am not the only one.

  1. Ah sorry Panda:(. That was the one ya showed me the other day. That was really good.

Youtube's always blocking the machinimas. There must be another site that hosts videos without the copyright red tape. I know webs does, but it takes forever to upload.

  2. yeah it seems in this new media focused world artists are more paranoid than ever about 'thievery' which is completely jackass imo. its not stealing unless you claim the content is your own. when i was a teen we recorded songs off the radio. by todays standards, that too, would be stealing. i think some ppl need to just relax and enjoy the fact that their work is being enjoyed. if i were a creator, i would be HAPPY my creation was being passed around

  3. Exactly! If I was an artist I would be flattered if people were making machinimas of my work

  4. They did NOT block that song did they???? I loooooooved that machinima, wtF. I can't believe that it's halfway thru 2011 and they STILL don't understand the impact of online advertising, especially with YouTube, with respect to music. I had honestly never even HEARD that song before -- it's not my usual type of music so I never would've sought it out -- but when I saw that machinima I thought 'hey, they might not be too bad' and I seriously might've gotten a song or two.

So you've got old fogies like me who never would've even given PATD a second look before but are now a at least a little interested in them, and interest leads to revenue. These people need to get their heads out of their dank hairy asses and realize that the big bad interweb isn't some beast they can conquer by pulling crap like this -- if they worked WITH it they'd at least generate enough revenue to buy a new golden shower.... ^_^

  7. I remember raging at the screen when I was trying to watch Freaks and Geeks via youtube once lol, and like every third part of an episode was audio blocked because of some song that played on it, drove me all crazy like because it was honestly the only place I had found the whole series, other than straight out buying it on ebay and waiting for it to arrive ._.

  8. I saw an amazing machinima once. It was AMAZING. It was epic, the camera movements, the storyline, everything. A few days later I went back to watch it and it wasn't there :( And the song that was used isn't on iTunes when I checked. I was so bummed >.<
